— "Pawsitive" and Wise Students (PAWS) for the month of February at Glenn Duffy Elementary School were honored Monday, Feb. 6. Each PAWS Student of the Month was recognized at the monthly "Rise and Shine" assembly and presented a T-shirt. PAWS honorees for this month are Summer Arnold of Bella Vista, Truitt Brewer of Gravette, Landyn Butler of Gravette, Paxton Chernota of Bella Vista, Myca Nolan of Bella Vista and Ava Whitehead of Bella Vista.

The Glenn Duffy Elementary PAWS Program incorporates character education and positive behavior into the school community. Each month PAWS skills are chosen and discussed in classroom guidance in relation to character education. The word for February is problem-solving. This means to focus on the problem as it is, gather information, then use knowledge to solve the problem. Coach Melissa Pittman introduced the problem-solving poster that she made from what the kids discussed the previous week during PE classes. Students used words like "just keep swimming," ask, help and talk.

Students also welcomed returning student Nate Croasdell, a second-grader. His teacher, Jennifer Davis, and high school basketball coach Matt Busch led the celebration. The basketball team led a chant, "Nate!" "Won!"

Last May, Nate was diagnosed with stage-three malignant kidney cancer (Wilms tumor). His right kidney was removed and he received two weeks of radiation. He has also received 28 chemo treatments since his diagnosis. He has been working hard from home but was unable to attend school after the first couple of weeks. Zane Vanderpool, Glenn Duffy principal, said, "We are happy to announce that he is back and cancer free!"
