We all need to make ourselves a bit better each year

I always think about doing something really earthshaking for my New Year's resolution. I am thinking again, haven't decided on a thing yet, and I want to do a good one. My close relative is always making a good one and sticking to it. I should be proud she can do that, but it sure makes me look like a slacker. This year we are gonna see it change, maybe.

Do you have to make that resolution before the new year pops in or can you do it any time? I hope it isn't time sensitive or I guess I am already on a losing streak. I could say I want to stay in good shape by being horseback at least twice a week in the next year, or being healthy by eating ice cream shakes only in the summer. I could determine to be an uplifting presence to the old men at the coffee emporium by dropping in daily. I don't think my close relative is going to go for those easy titles. I am still thinking.

February is sneaking up on us real fast. The heavy springers are looking promising and, as an old beef producer, that is darn pretty. I have that quality, looking ahead for a good year and just knowing it is going to happen to us! Now I don't mean we ain't ever had a decent year, me and my close relative have had some good years. I am still looking for that pie in the sky year that will pay off my banker and leave me some spending money!

I sure have enjoyed my Christmas boots. I trade out my Sunday go-to-meeting boots for every day and throw away the old ones with holes in the soles. I should bronze a pair so they would be here for all future generations to see how hard I have worked! Well, that sure can't happen, but I am glad to have some that are just broke in good for daily wear and tear! The offspring are good about giving me boots; that seems to be all they can think of.

Question of the week has been asked, something about a week off to go snow skiing. We are tickled the two get along well but, by golly, one at a time wouldn't be so bad. No, they think they must go together. I didn't give in last year and my close relative frowned about it, so I am thinking it over this time. How and why would a feller think he would have fun in the snow? These two do not seem to squeal with delight when they are breaking ice and plowing through snow banks here on the rock pile!

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, we all need to make ourselves better each year or, at the very least, try to. I figure most of you fellers are so good to start with that, like myself, it is hard to improve what is almost perfect, but we gotta try. I can't give you any advice, but I think I have one that will make me a better man, and I suppose it wouldn't hurt any of you either. I think I will spend more time doing some reading in my Bible and trying to live by what I read. Sounds to me like a good one!
