GENTRY -- Wrestlers from Gentry High School were unable to obtain a team victory on the mats when they hosted visiting grappling teams from Stilwell and Jay, Okla., on Jan. 3 in the Carl Gym. Team scores were 30-6 in favor of Stilwell and 63-0 in favor of Jay.

With only six wrestlers on the team and five of those wrestling, a team win is nigh unto impossible. But, in the individual matches, the small Gentry team came up short as well, losing all its matches to Jay and winning one against Stilwell.

Austin Trimble scored Gentry's only team points, defeating Micah Leach of Stilwell in the first period by a fall. Matthew Nance wrestled a full three periods against Jay but was short on points to win by decision.

"The team is continually growing and getting better," said John Madding, Gentry's coach. "We have wrestled a lot of good schools so far. These guys take coaching very well and come to work day in and day out, and I think you can see the improvements they have made since the season started," Madding added.
