Quilt show set for Gentry

The annual Gentry Chamber of Commerce Quilt Show is set for Friday, Jan. 27, through Friday, Feb. 3, at the McKee Community Room in the Gentry Public Library, at 105 East Main Street in Gentry. The quilts will be on display there each day of the show. Some of the categories include hand-quilted, machine-quilted, applique, hand-pieced, machine-pieced, child or baby quilt, wall-hanging quilt, antique quilt and family heirloom. Quilt entries will be received for the show on Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. Those who plan to enter a quilt must fill out an application form and send it to Gentry Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734, before Jan. 20th. Application forms are available at the Gentry City Hall (across the street from the library) and Gentry Chamber of Commerce office (212 E. Main Street) and are downloadable on the Gentry Chamber of Commerce website at www.gentrychamber.com. Because of limited space, quilt entries will be limited to two per person, with the possibility of additional quilts being entered if there is room. Quilts will be ready to be picked up between 2 and 4 p.m. on Feb. 3.

Chamber Awards Banquet set for Feb. 9

The Gentry Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant in Gentry. Nominations are being accepted for Volunteer of the Year, Organization of the Year, Business of the Year, Shining Light Award (for a young person who goes above and beyond to make Gentry a great place to live), and Lifetime Achievement Award (for a longtime Gentry resident -- living or deceased -- who has dedicated his or her life's work to the city and the people of Gentry). Nominations should be sent to Gentry Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734 or emailed to [email protected] by Jan. 13. Banquet tickets are available at the same address for $25 per person. The Wooden Spoon will be serving dinner and dessert. Limited seating is available, so get your tickets early.

Gravette Chamber community banquet planned

The fourth annual Gravette Chamber of Commerce community banquet is set for Thursday, Feb. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Horton Farms, 13799 Bethlehem Road, Gravette. Food will be catered from Hardluck Cafe and dessert from Copelands. There will be a wine tasting by courtesy of Just a Taste from Missouri, door prizes, a silent auction and a wine pull. Anyone can attend. Tickets are $40 each or $275 for a table of eight. Purchase tickets at Arvest Bank, Bank of Gravett, Gravette city hall or Ozarks Community Hospital. Gentry history books still available

The new Gentry history books are available for pickup at the Chamber office, 212 East Main Street, Gentry. A few copies are still available for purchase at the Chamber office but they are not expected to last long. The hardcover history of Gentry is nearly 700 pages and sells for $95. Library Commission Openings

Three positions are open for membership on the Gravette Public Library Commission. Commission members must live in the Gravette School District. Anyone desiring to be considered for a position on the commission should contact library supervisor Karen Benson, 787-6955, or mayor Kurt Maddox, 787-5757. Application may be made in person at the library or at Gravette City Hall.

NAGS to meet on Jan. 23

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, at Bentonville Public Library, 405 S Main, Bentonville. The program will be "Bring Your Brick Wall" genealogy research problems and get advice on how to break down the wall. Everyone is welcome.

Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's showgrounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at www.tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meetings first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
