DECATUR -- The Lady Bulldogs continued to struggle on the boards as they took on the Lady Yellowjackets of Kingston and the Lady Eagles of Omaha in two district home games last week.

In the Jan. 10 contest with the Lady Yellowjackets, the Lady Bulldogs took the early lead but were unable to maintain control of the game. Kingston eventually overtook Decatur to take a 10-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs kept the game to within 10 points at the close of the first half. But a strong showing on the boards by the Lady Yellowjackets put the game out of reach for the Lady Bulldogs. Decatur played strong in the last 10 minutes of the contest, but the effort proved too little and too late as Kingston took the district victory, 50-27.

It was much the same when the Lady Eagles of Omaha came to Peterson Gym in Decatur on Jan. 13. This time, the Lady Eagles jumped out in front with a 36-19 lead going into the halftime break. The Lady Bulldogs were never able to catch up, and the Lady Eagles took the victory, 63 to 37.

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Eureka Springs Tuesday (after press time) to take on the Lady Highlanders. They return to Decatur Jan. 20 to play the colors day contest against the St. Paul Lady Saints. The coronation of the colors day queen is set to begin at 5:30 p.m., with the game slated to begin at 6.

In other Bulldog basketball contests, the Decatur junior high A and B teams played Berryville Jan. 12 at Peterson Gym in Decatur. The B team lost to Berryville, 19-8, and the A team by a score of 40-7.
