— Work has started to build a new diesel mechanic lab and career classroom facility at Gentry High School Conversion Charter. The site on the north side of the high school property was scraped and red dirt was brought in to prepare a pad for the new building.

The facility will house classroom space for career-oriented training, such as the school district's current certified nurse aide and patient care assistant program and will have a two-bay work area for hands-on training in the diesel mechanic program.

The Gentry School Board, at its regular meeting on Jan. 9, approved a preliminary construction budget for a building. The estimated cost for the diesel mechanic lab, including fees for the architect and construction manager, is almost $3 million. Funding is coming from bond sales made possible by the voters' approval of a 3.1 millage increase for the construction project and the building of a new classroom facility at the Gentry Intermediate School.

Flintco is the construction manager for both the diesel mechanic lab and the new classroom building on the intermediate school campus.
