GENTRY -- The June 19, the Gentry Public Library Summer Reading Program, "Build a Better World," concentrated on weather, the kinds of weather we could observe and feel. Attendees enjoyed crafts, which included making umbrellas with cupcake holders and pipe cleaners.

Karen McGehee read books, including "The Man Who Named the Clouds," by Julie Hannah, and "The Rainy-Day Cat," by Kathy Wilburn.

Each child made a pinwheel from paper pinned to a pencil, then went outside to see how the wind turned each pinwheel.

Each child also started a weather journal and made a first entry into it based on what could be seen out the library window. Most of the children saw a cloud (cloudy day), shadows (sunny day), and wind blowing the trees (windy day). One small child also saw stars! He said the stars were on "that flag." He then pointed to one of the many American Flags Gentry has adorning its Main Street.
