Ash Wednesday service planned in Sulphur Springs

Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Moffett and S. Black Ave. (301 S. Black Ave.), invites everyone from the community to come on Wednesday evening, March 1, for an Ash Wednesday service and "imposition of ashes." The special service marks the beginning of the holy season of Lent. The service begins at 6 p.m.

Prom Breakfast Fundraisers

The Gentry High School junior and senior students, along with the Parent Prom Breakfast Committee, will be holding several fundraisers prior to the prom on April 22 to purchase door prizes for the Prom Breakfast, including the following: March 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Zaxbys in Siloam Springs; and on March 14, an Indian Taco Dinner. A percentage of the total sales at Harps and at Zaxbys during the time period will be given to support the prom breakfast. The Indian Taco Dinner sales will begin at 3 p.m. at the concession building on the Gentry High School football field. The meals, including the taco and tea or lemonade, will be $6 and will be sold until they run out or people stop coming. Desserts will also be available for $1. Miss Springtime Pageant

Miss Springtime Pageant, for children with special needs, will be held in the Gentry High School auditorium at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4. Girls, ages birth to 21, and boys, ages birth to 8, may enter the pageant. Children, birth to age 5, will be admitted free. Those 6 and older will be charged $2 each. GFA Food Pantry open Mondays in Gentry

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Baked Potato Supper

A baked potato supper fundraiser will be held at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Gravette from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 17. Meal will include a baked potato and toppings, dessert and beverage for $8. Takeouts will be available. Proceeds go to the Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.

Quilt Raffle Fundraiser

Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center is sponsoring a quilt raffle fundraiser. Drawing for a quilt made and donated by Betty Howard will be held on Friday, March 17. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, or by calling 479-787-5950. Need not be present to win. All proceeds to go the Meals on Wheels program that serves Gravette, Sulphur Springs, Decatur, Hiwasse and Maysville.

Archeology Training Program

The Ko-ko-ci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at the Fayetteville Public Library. Marilyn Knapp and Mary Brennan will present "Get Involved and Dig Archeology: The Arkansas Archeological Society's Training Program in Archeology." They will discuss details of the June 2017 dig and how interested members of the public may participate. The meeting is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Library Commission Openings

Three positions are open for members on the Gravette Public Library Commission. Commission members must live within the Gravette School District. Persons interested in the position should contact Library supervisor, Karen Benson, at 479-787-6955, or Gravette City Hall at 479-787-5757, or they may apply in person at the Library, on Main Street, or at City Hall.

Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's showgrounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at www.tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meetings first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
