Public hearing closes out fire department grant

— An open public hearing was held preceding the Gravette city council meeting Thursday night to discuss the Arkansas Community and Economic Development Grant for the Gravette Fire Department. Cassie Elliott, grant writer with Visionary Milestones, attended the meeting and explained that a final hearing was required to close out the grant.

The grant was a HUD grant of $74,000 to purchase a ladder truck for the fire department. The truck, purchased in Hartford, Conn., was driven to Gravette a few weeks ago and Elliott described it as "a lot of truck for the money." Rob Douthit, fire chief, said his crew is preparing the truck for service and is just waiting for one more part, a thermal imaging camera, before the vehicle is ready for use.

Public hearings were also held to consider rezoning of property at 102 Boston Street, N.E., and lot splits on 6th Avenue, S.W., and at 18042 Ridge Road, N.E. No one raised objections to any of these actions.

After the public hearings were closed council members voted to pass ordinances to rezone property at 102 Boston Street, N.E., from C-2, highway commercial, to R-1, single family residential, and to approve lot splits for Rueven Ginton on 6th Avenue, S.W., and for Dennis Deen at 18042 Ridge Road, N.E.

In other action, council members passed a resolution approving the adjustment and closing of the 2016 budget and voted to approve an agreement between the city and Morrison-Shipley Engineers for professional services related to the 2017 sanitary sewer rehabilitation project.

In final action before adjournment, council members voted to approve changing the March 23 council meeting to March 16 and changing the May 11 Committee of the Whole meeting to May 4.
