Lady Pionners lose two, win opening tournament game

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers fell to Prairie Grove and West Fork last week but picked up a win over Northside in the opening round of tournament play in Siloam Springs on Friday.

The Gentry girls traveled to West Fork on Monday, March 6, but couldn't stop West Fork from putting a run or two on the board every time the team came up to bat. Westville scored one run each in the first, second and fifth innings and two each in the third, fourth and sixth to outscore Gentry, 9-7, after six and a half innings of play.

Gentry scored one run in the first on a Brooke Boston double to bring in April Harris after she walked.

Gentry scored five in the fourth when Harley Stanfield made it to first on a shortstop error, Xitlali Estrada got on by fielder's choice, Taylor Hull walked, Harris grounded out to first to score Stanfield, Brooke Boston singled to left to score Estrada, Alyssa Kelton singled to left to score Hull. Boston scored on an illegal pitch, and Billi Taylor singled to third, bringing in Kelton.

Harris scored again in the top of the seventh when Alexis Droddy hit a ground ball to third, Harris was running for Nicole Kelton.

Brooke Boston was five for five in the game with one of her hits being a double. She also led in RBIs with two.

Alyssa Kelton pitched for Gentry and struck out nine.

West Fork had four home runs in the game to seal the win, two of them were by Brooke Lowry.

Prairie Grove 3

Gentry 0

Prairie Grove shut out Gentry on Thursday and scored three runs in the third to take the league game, 3-0.

Taylor Hull and Alyssa Kelton hit doubles in the game, but the Lady Pioneers managed only three more hits in the matchup.

Kelton pitched all seven innings and struck out one and walked one.

Northside 4

The Lady Pioneers scored seven runs in the second and another in the third to beat Northside at Siloam Springs on Friday before the rains began.

Alyssa Kelton earned the win for Gentry, pitching four innings, giving up four runs, seven hits, and striking out two.

Taylor Hull, Brooke Boston and Alyssa Kelton all hit triples during the second inning of the game. Hull picked up three RBIs as a result of her triple. bringing in Mandy Barber, Makensi Sweeten and Billi Taylor.

The next rounds of the tournament were postponed until Saturday, April 15, due to rain last Saturday.
