GRAVETTE -- March "Pawsitive" and Wise Students winners for the month of March at Glenn Duffy Elementary were honored at the school's monthly Rise and Shine assembly. PAWS winners for the month of March were: Abriana Amezcua of Bella Vista, Kalia Dolney of Gravette, Jack Grimes of Sulphur Springs, Logan Hill of Decatur, Aaron Ortega of Hiwasse, and Troy Glover of Gravette.

The Glenn Duffy Elementary PAWS program incorporates character education and positive behavior into the school community. Each month PAWS skills are chosen and discussed in classroom guidance in relation to character education. School staff members continually watch for opportunities to compliment students for terrific character, behavior or effort.

The character word for March is Teamwork. This means to work together for a common purpose. Legendary Gravette football coach Duke Mobley was guest speaker for the assembly. Mobley is an expert when it comes to encouraging teamwork. He explained to students that it takes every person on a team working together to get the job done. Mobley said, "If even one team player isn't giving their best, or isn't trying 100 percent, it can affect the whole team." He demonstrated this by having one student try to lift him out of his chair, then two, then three. His demonstration showed students that it takes a team working together to accomplish their goal.

Students were recognized for their efforts in the school's recent Subway card fundraiser. Funds generated will be applied toward playground improvements. Grade-level winners were: Brynlee Buffer, pre-K; Rylea Daylong, kindergarten; Bella Alexander, first grade; and Braiden Sales, second grade. Grace Finley was overall top seller.
