Council approves two property adjustments

— In a brief meeting Thursday night, the Gravette city council passed two ordinances and one resolution. An ordinance was passed rezoning property at 210 6th Avenue, S.E., belonging to Tom Barber, from R-1 to R-2. A second ordinance was passed approving a lot line adjustment for two parcels of land at 16176 Smith Road, belonging to Rick Ford.

A public hearing was held prior to voting on the ordinances to discuss the two property adjustments. No one was present to comment on either proposed change.

A third proposed ordinance, to correct an error on the plat for a lot split for property on 6th Avenue, S.W., owned by Rueven Ginton, was tabled because signed paperwork was not received in time.

A resolution was passed to approve an adjustment of the 2017 budget.

Council members voted to approve removing Chris Speights, former city finance director, and adding the name of Carl Rabey, current finance director, to the signature cards for the water and sewer reserve account, the utility deposit account, the sales and use tax 1/4-cent account, the street fund reserve account and the Hillcrest Cemetery account. Approval was also given to adding the names of Carl Rabey and Mayor Kurt Maddox to the signature cards for the four cemetery CDs, the museum money market account and the library commission account.

Council member Margo Thomas commented at the conclusion of the meeting that citizens had expressed concern to her about through truck traffic on 2nd Avenue, S.W. Residents of the street were concerned about the amount of traffic, she said, because of the number of children playing on the street. Signs banning such traffic, formerly posted on the street, have been removed, Thomas said. Mayor Maddox said he would have local officers monitor the situation.
