Gentry girls lose three in play last week

GENTRY -- Mena took an early lead in play against the Gentry girls on Saturday and Gentry never recovered, losing the non-conference game, 5-4, in four innings of play.

Alexis Droddy, Brooke Boston and Alyssa Kelton had Gentry's three hits in the game. Mena had nine hits.

Gentry scored two runs in the first and another two in the fourth but never held the lead.

Taylor Hull walked in the first inning and pinch runner Avani Edwards advanced on Boston and Kelton singles to score. Boston scored on a sacrifice grounder by Droddy.

In the fourth, Billi Taylor, pinch runner for Droddy following a single to left, scored on a Sweeten ground out. Harley Stanfield, who walked, made it home on a wild pitch.

Bentonville West took the lead with a home run in the first, four runs in both the second and third and another run in the fourth to shut out the Gentry girls, 10-0, in four innings of play on Friday.

Brooke Boston pounded a double in the first inning.

Alyssa Kelton was on the mound for Gentry, allowing 10 runs on 12 hits, and striking out one.

Boston and Kelton had Gentry's only hits in the non-conference game.

The Lady Blackhawks broke open a close game with five runs in the sixth inning.

Keria Bryant was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs for Pea Ridge. Alli Whatley was 2-for-2 with a double.

Dominique Burwell earned the win in the circle, allowing four hits with five strikeouts.

The Lady Pioneers had four hits in the game, singles by Brooke Boston, Alyssa Kelton, Harley Stanfield and Makensi Sweeten.
