Tired Iron Show set April 14-16

The Spring Crank-up is set for April 14-16 at the Tired Iron of the Ozarks showgrounds, 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. The show will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday. The featured tractors this spring will be Allis-Chalmers. The featured engine will be the Stover Upright. Other regular features of the show include a working blacksmith shop and sawmills, noon parade of power, tractor games, log cabin, outhouse photo booth, rope making, antique tractor and engine displays, old farm implements and demonstrations, antique home furnishings with demonstrations, concession stand serving breakfast and lunch, music, a flea market, and 9 a.m. Sunday church services. RV parking is available, and the show and visitor parking are free.

Farmers' Market Coupons available

Farmers' Market Coupons will be given out on Wednesday, April 5, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Gentry Senior Activity and Wellness Center, and on Thursday, April 6, from 9 a.m. until noon, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Gravette. Proof of income and identification are required to receive the coupons. One coupon book per household will be issued to applicants age 60 or older.

Library Lorax Events

The Gravette Public Library will host its second event featuring "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss when Steve Chrychel, of Hobbs State Park, gives a special presentation of "The Lorax" at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 31, for kindergarten through sixth grade students. The program will focus on forest conservation. The library is located at 119 Main Street, S.E., in Gravette.

Gravette Pee Wee Cheerleaders holding annual sign-ups

Gravette Pee Wee Cheerleaders are holding their annual sign-ups for the 2017 season. Sign-ups continue on April 8 from 2 to 5 p.m., and May 27 from 12 to 3 p.m., all at the Gravette Upper Elementary playground picnic tables. Smoke on the Border

The Greater Gravette Chamber of Commerce will host the Smoke on the Border barbecue competition, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, April 1 and 2, at the Hiwasse Community Center, 13690 Firehouse Lane, in Hiwasse. Saturday's events, planned from about 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., will include barbecue competitions for both youth and adults, people's choice tastings and vote (with purchase of a $10 wristband), live music and vendors offering Girl Scout cookies, free food samples and arts and crafts. Sunday will feature KCBS competition cookoffs in four categories, chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.

Pre-K, Elementary Registration

Glenn Duffy Elementary School in Gravette has announced kindergarten and pre-K registration applications will be available at the school and online beginning Monday, April 10, and continuing through Friday, April 14. Times for pickup at the school are Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. For information about required items, visit the school website under Parent tab or call 479-787-4120. Personal Finance Workshops

The Gravette Public Library will host a series of personal finance workshops during April. The one-hour classes, led by Arvest Bank, will begin at 10 a.m. each Saturday, beginning April 1. Subjects, in order of presentation, will include banking fundamentals, budgeting, identity theft prevention, investments vs. savings strategies and estate planning 101, and mortgage basics. Library Book Sale

The Gravette Public Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, at the former library building located at 407 Charlotte Street, S.E. EAST students seeking stories, artifacts related to school building

OCH Easter Eggstravaganza

The Ozarks Community Hospital of Gravette will hold its annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 15, with activities beginning at 10 a.m. at the OCH of Gravette Clinic, 1101 Jackson Street, S.W. The event will be held, rain or shine, with fun for all ages, including egg hunts for children 10 and under, separated by age groups, a visit from the Easter bunny, free food, games and activities, and a petting zoo. Bella Vista Church Outreach

The Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, located at 1880 Forest Hills Blvd. (Hwy. 279), has issued an invitation to former members of the First Presbyterian Church of Gravette and to any others in the area who are looking for a church home. The church sponsors several service projects, holds men's and women's fellowship meetings, monthly Bible studies, potluck dinners, Lenten suppers and an annual church picnic. GFA Food Pantry open Mondays in Gentry

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Mondays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. School Annuals Needed

Several Gravette High School annuals are still needed to complete the collection at the Gravette Historical Museum. Annuals needed are those from the following years: 1952, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1984, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2007. Anyone having school annuals from these years they are willing to donate may call Lavon Stark, 479-787-5618, or bring them to the museum during open hours, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Library Commission Openings

Three positions are open for members on the Gravette Public Library Commission. Commission members must live within the Gravette School District. Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meetings first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
