— Though it was a bit less than peaceful and hard to get to last weekend when it rained and rained and the creek roared and overflowed its banks, the Flint Creek Nature Area, one of Gentry's parks, is a true gem for local residents.

An easy walk on paved trails takes visitors around a beautiful spring-fed pond, down along the waters of Flint Creek and through lush forest vegetation where birds sing and wildflowers bloom.

The park is not only a good spot for a little fishing, it is becoming a popular spot for those who enjoy a short walk which is refreshing, not only to the body, but to the soul as one enjoys the beauty of God's creation and the solitude of a walk along a path through the woods.

And the paved trails there make it possible for visitors -- whether walking or wheeling -- to enjoy the outdoors without worrying so much about the little crawly critters which often go with a walk in the fields or woodlands. And, thanks to the work of the city, the park is now accessible by sidewalk from downtown Gentry by walking south on Collins, south along Gentry Boulevard to Sleepy Hollow and east along Dawn Hill East Road to the spring and to the park.

And the springtime is a beautiful time to visit. The trees are a lush green, the pond full of clear, fresh water and the trails lined with blooming wildflowers.

The area is a refreshing spot close to home and a place to be preserved so that visitors can enjoy the beauties of creation and the pleasures of a little peace and quiet in the midst of an otherwise busy place.
