Gentry takes golds at state track meet

— Gentry boys finished sixth at the state 4A track meet held in Pocahontas on May 2, with Clark Mason taking first in the discus and shot put, and Cole Cripps taking first in the pole vault.

Mason threw the shot 49 feet, 10 inches, just four inches farther than Chris French of Ashdown High School. He threw the discus 147-01, almost 9 feet farther than his closest competitor.

Cripps cleared 14 feet in the pole vault, four inches above the silver medalist but not the 15 feet he had hoped to achieve.

Alex Fink, of Gravette, took a silver medal in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 50.20.

Gravette High School’s team of Danny Delapp, Roberto Barrios, TJ Kardynalski and Alex Fink took second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:32.65.

Jon Faulkenberry of Gentry finished fifth in the discus with his throw of 123-05.

Gentry boys finished sixth, with 37 points. Gravette finished 12th, with 19 points.

GIRLS

On the girls’ side, Chastery Fuamatu of Gentry took gold in the discus, with a throw of 118-08, and a silver in the shot, with a throw of 37-05.

Anne Jorgensen of Gravette threw the shot 33-07.50 for a fifth place finish.

Sally Bird, of Gravette, finished fourth in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:32.19.

Gravette High School’s team of Teagan Dixon, Kyrstin Branscum, Sally Bird and Gracie Berger finished third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:20.06.

The Gravette girls finished 11th in the state meet, with 23 points. Gentry finished 17th with 18 points.
