— The Gentry High School Band had a successful marching and concert season during the 2016-2017 school year, with the following contests and awards.

Marching Band Contests

The Gentry "Pioneer Pride" Marching Band performed the marching show, "Things That Go Bump In The Night," and competed in the following marching band contests:

Blackhawk Invitational Marching Contest: First Place Class A as well as best drum major, color guard and drumline in Class A

War Eagle Classic: First Place Class A, as well as best drum major, color guard, drumline and marching in Class A.

ASBOA (Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association) Region VI Marching Assessment: Superior rating and qualified to compete at the State Marching Contest.

Concert Season Achievements

The Gentry Wind Ensemble prepared the following selections for the ASBOA Region VI Concert Assessment: "Armory" by Randall Standridge, "More Games!" by Barry Kopetz and "Marche Diabolique" by Brian Balmages.

ASBOA Region VI Concert Assessment: the Gentry Wind Ensemble received Superior ratings from all three judges on prepared music. The wind ensemble also received a Superior rating in sight reading

Sweepstakes Award

The Gentry Band earned a Sweepstakes Award this school year. The last time the band earned this award was the 2008-2009 school year. Criteria for this exclusive award is for a band to receive a Superior rating at the ASBOA Marching Assessment (October), a Superior rating at the ASBOA Concert Assessment held in March, and a Superior rating in sight reading (completed at Concert Assessment).

Honor Wind Ensemble Selection

The Gentry Wind Ensemble was also selected as an Honor Ensemble to perform at the Arkansas All-State Music Convention, to be held in Hot Springs, February, 2018. All "AAA" bands who received Superior ratings at Concert Assessment were invited to submit recordings to be evaluated by three out-of-state adjudicators. The Gentry Wind Ensemble was chosen as the ASBOA "AAA" Honor Ensemble.
