— For 126 seniors at Gravette High School, Saturday was a day to celebrate a milestone in their hard work as they walked across the stage in Lion Stadium and received their diplomas, handshakes and congratulations as high school graduates.

Not all could be there. Jay Chalk, high school principal, and several seniors on the Gravette softball team were in Lonoke Saturday morning to play in the state playoffs, and they won another round to move closer to the state championship.

Graduation ceremonies began with the walk into the stadium to their seats at center field, a student-led prayer of invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem and the dedication of flowers. Richard Page, superintendent of Gravette Schools, addressed students and their guests, who filled the stadium seating to overflowing.

Speeches were given by high-honor students Zoe Betz and Alex Fink and by distinguished high-honors student Alex Krewson.

Diplomas were awarded by members of the Gravette School Board as Will Pittman, filling in for Taos Jones (assistant principal and coach of the girls' softball team), read their names.

Then, after Jay Oliphant, president of the school board, presented the graduates, and Abbi Krewson led in a prayer of benediction, the seniors moved into a group behind the stage and caps flew in celebration.
