Lady Bulldogs loose to Scranton in opening round of 1A state tournament

DECATUR -- The Lady Bulldogs' dream season, which witnessed the team make it into the state tournament in the 1A conference, ended with a loss in the first round of the 1A State Tournament held in Pine Bluff on May 11.

The Lady Bulldogs were up against the Scranton Rockets, second best team in the 1A conference, and were no match for the stronger team which took the victory, 16-0, and eventually played in the semi-finals May 15.

This was the first time in more than 10 years that the Lady Bulldogs made it to the state softball tournament. For Jeff Melton and Anna Wilkins this showing represented their first appearance in a state tournament as coaches.

Under the leadership of senior Cameron Shaffer, the Lady Bulldogs pulled off a late-season rally to finish third in the 1A-1 regional tournament and qualify for the state tournament appearance.
