Lady Lions fall in state semifinals to Pottsville

— After a bye in the first round of state tournament play and shutting out Crossett, 3-0, on Saturday in the quarterfinals, the Lady Lions' season ended on Monday when they were shut out by Pottsville in the semifinals, 4-0, at Lonoke High School.

Cally Kildow, freshman pitcher for Gravette, struck out six Pottsville batters, walking only one, but Pottsville managed seven hits and put four runs on the board while holding the Gravette girls scoreless on two hits, by Kildow and Jaki Chalk.

Pottsville score a run in the first, two in the sixth and another in the seventh.

The Lady Lions beat Pottsville during the regular season, 1-0, in an away game on May 6.

On Saturday, Kildow struck out 11 Crossett batters and allowed only three hits in the game for the shutout. The Lady Lions had 11 hits in the game and scored three runs, two in the fourth and one in the fifth for the state-tournament win.

Hannah Cole and Bailey Elmore both singled in the fourth and were brought home on an Emily Ellis single to center field.

Gabbi Curtis scored in the fifth after singling to left, being advanced by a Keeley Bulza bunt to the pitcher and later being brought home on a Hannah Cole single, also to left.

Gravette rival, Pea Ridge, lost 7-4 in the Saturday quarterfinals in play against Stuttgart.
