DECATUR -- The Decatur Chamber of Commerce held its annual Honors Banquet May 8 in the cafeteria at Decatur High School. About 35 parents, teachers, friends and family gathered to pay tribute to the five honor students in the class of 2017.

Ryan Shaffer, Dylan Frydrychowski, Bracy Owens, Cameron Shaffer and Shaney Lee were each presented with a monogrammed book bag filled with everything from chocolate covered pretzels to school supplies to board games, items that every new college student needs to survive a first year.

Ladale Clayton, chamber vice-president, served as this year's master of ceremonies. She introduced each of the seniors and presented them with their book bags.

During the awards program later in the evening, Clayton, along with Amy Brooks, presented this year's valedictorian, Ryan Shaffer, with a scholarship from the Decatur Chamber in the amount of $300. Frydrychowski, this year's salutatorian, also received a scholarship from the chamber in the amount of $200.

The Decatur School District and faculty of Decatur High School helped sponsor the meal for this year's banquet.
