— Alex Fink, a 2017 graduate of Gravette High School, signed Thursday, May 25, to run track at Greenville University in Greenville, Ill.

Alex is the son of Bryan and Lucretia Fink of Bella Vista. His father is pastor of the Highlands United Methodist Church. He is carrying on a family tradition as he is the fifth generation to attend Greenville. Both his parents and his three older siblings have all been students there.

Alex set four new school records during his track career at Gravette High School, in the long jump, the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash and the 4x4 relay. He was the high-point scoring male at almost every track meet he attended.

"He's a great person," said Jana Hardgrave, head track coach at Gravette High School. "I like how he leads and he communicates well with others. He understands you're responsible for your own success."

Hardgrave said she felt Alex hadn't yet reached his potential and predicted, "You'll be surprised at what he'll do" when he joins the Greenville Panther track team. She said he is taking advantage of a great opportunity to go on to the next level.

Both Alex's parents spoke briefly at the signing and expressed their pride in their son. His father said he admired Alex's competitive spirit.

"He doesn't like to lose. He doesn't like to come in second," Bryan Fink said. He explained how Alex would often push himself to do better because he didn't want to let his teammates down. "They fuel each other," he said.
