Sulphur Days planned for June 24

Sulphur Days is planned in Sulphur Springs on Saturday, June 24. All are invited to come and enjoy the many events in the park all day long in celebration of Independence Day. The event begins with the 8 a.m. pancake breakfast and fishing derby and ends with a spectacular fireworks show after the sun goes down. Between the two, visitors can enjoy a car and tractor show with trophies for the best entries, a dunk tank, raffle prizes, horseshoe pitch, food vendors, kids' jump house and water slide, and the museum raffle. Visitors can get a barbecued dinner and join the treasure hunt, all to celebrate the rich history of Sulphur Springs and of the freedoms enjoyed in the United States.

Library to hold book sale

A book sale to benefit the Gravette Public Library will be held Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Books for all ages will be on display in the former Gravette library building at 407 Charlotte Street, S.E., just east of the civic center. Book sales will be held at this location the first Saturday of each month throughout the summer.

OCH plans blood drive

The Ozarks Community Hospital of Gravette will hold a blood drive Monday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks bloodmobile will be set up in the hospital parking lot and participants are reminded to eat well and drink plenty of fluids prior to the blood drive. Theme of the event is "Salute a Veteran, Give Blood," and free T-shirts will be given to all participants. Photo identification is required.

Gamble Cemetery Association asking for donations

The Gamble Cemetery Association is asking for donations for the upkeep of the Gamble Cemetery. Please make checks payable to Gamble Cemetery Fund, c/o Besty Meek, #14 Plockton Ln., Bella Vista, AR 72715 or c/o Marie Garrison, 1816 Shelby Ave., Springdale, AR 72762. Donations may also be made at any Bank of Gravett location. Donations are tax deductible.

Summer Reading to start June 5 in Gentry

The Gentry Public Library Summer Reading Program begins Monday, June 5, from 2 to 4 p.m., and runs every Monday through July 24 (excluding July 3). Activities planned for different age groups include mock stained glass, shadow drawing, silhouette drawing, writing projects, firefighter and police presentations, and, of course, READING. The events are free and open to the public. Several groups, including the local 4-H, Boys and Girls Club and the Girl Scouts, have volunteered to lead the weekly activities. Other youth organizations interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact the library at 479-736-2054.

First Baptist Church in Gentry to hold children's summer programs

Vacation Bible School will be held June 4-8 for children, ages 4 through ninth grade, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is "Galactic Starveyors," and participants will focus their telescopes and discover the wonders in the sky. Explore Club for children who have completed kindergarten through the second grade is scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 13, and on Thursday, June 15, for those who have completed third through the fifth grades. Berean Ministries will be having Vacation Bible School June 5-9

Berean Ministries will be having Vacation Bible School the week of June 5 to 9, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Children in grades entering Kindergarten through entering seventh grade are invited. Every child there the first day will receive a free team T-shirt. Activities will include Bible lessons, crafts, games, snacks, puppets, balloon animals and Deal, Dare or Door. Heritage Baptist Church, Gravette, to hold Vacation Bible School June 11-15

A summer kids' event called Passport to Peru VBS will be hosted at Heritage Baptist Church from June 11 to June 15. Passport to Peru is like taking an adventurous trip to Peru. Kids will sing catchy songs, play high-energy games, dig into tasty Peruvian treats, experience cool Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies and explore what daily life is like for kids in Peru. Plus, kids get to watch short, captivating videos each day that provide a peek into Peru and the everyday life of kids who live there. Every day concludes with a closing celebration that gets everyone involved in living what they've learned. Passport to Peru VBS is for kids who will be starting kindergarten through those entering the seventh grade. The sessions will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each day. GFA Food Pantry open on Tuesdays in Gentry

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The change from Mondays to Tuesdays which will allow the center to have fresher produce. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's showgrounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at www.tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meets first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
