OCH offering Medicare education session Nov. 1

Ozarks Community Hospital is hosting a free Medicare education session at the OCH Gravette Hospital Cafeteria, 1101 Jackson St. SW, Gravette, from 12 to 1 p.m. on Nov. 1. The education sessions are entirely free and open to the public, including caregivers, Medicare-eligible individuals and all additional individuals interested in Medicare coverage options. The event will include a complimentary light meal. A panel of healthcare experts will be available to answer questions about enrolling for Medicare and offer guidance on how to lower insurance costs and maximize benefits. Primetimers Luncheon set for Saturday

The Primetimers Luncheon is set for Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., at Heritage Baptist Church. Those 60 and older are invited to the first-ever Primetimers Thanksgiving luncheon. Heritage Baptist will supply the turkey. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share -- and don't forget the pumpkin pie. Ron McDaniel, the church's own cowboy poet, will astound attendees with his own style of poetry. Lavon Stark will bring a devotion from God's Word. All are invited to come and bring a friend.

Community Thanksgiving planned in Gentry

The Gentry Community Thanksgiving Service will be on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 6 p.m., at the First Baptist Church. Pastor Mark Rotramel from Springtown Community Fellowship Church will be the keynote speaker. Worship will be provided by the Gentry Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Michael Powers from First Assembly of God will present a brief report on the distribution of Ministerial Alliance funds, and Brother Eddie Rotramel from First Christian Church will bless the fellowship meal. Everyone is asked to bring finger foods for the meal. Everyone is invited to attend this event of unified worship and thanksgiving.

Open enrollment for the health insurance Marketplace is Nov. 1 through Dec. 15

Open enrollment in the health insurance Marketplace starts on Nov. 1. Just log onto HealthCare.gov, fill out an application and enroll in a 2018 Marketplace health plan. The deadline is Dec. 15 and coverage starts on Jan. 1, 2018. The 2018 plans and prices will be available to preview shortly before Nov. 1. Gentry Public Library holding cookbook sale

A special cookbook sale is being held at the Gentry Public Library. The family of Marlene Wiltgen, who died Aug. 11, 2017, donated her extensive cookbook collection to the library with the request that some be incorporated into the library's circulation and some be sold for funds for the library. Marlene's cookbook collection spans decades. She was an accomplished cook and avid gardener and, as many of her local customers remember, she raised chickens and sold eggs in rural Gentry for many years. Other donated cookbooks have been added to this sale. The books can be viewed at the library on Monday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.

Blood drive set for Nov. 1 in Gentry

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents, and a USDA Commodity Program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 zip code area. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs, and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products, baby supplies, etc., are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Lions Club meetings set in Gravette, Gentry

The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Subway sandwich shop, 901 S.W. First Ave., Suite D, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron club meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Museum seeks school yearbooks

The Gravette Historical Museum Commission is trying to acquire Gravette High School yearbooks to add to the museum's collection. Annuals are still needed for the years 1957, 1958, 1977, 1979, 1984, 1998 and 1999. Those willing to donate the above annuals are asked to call museum commissioner Lavon Stark at 479-787-5678.
