— The annual library gala, hosted by the Gravette Public Library advisory board, was held Saturday evening, Oct. 7, in the commons at Gravette High School. "Celebrity Celebrations" was the theme of this year's event. It was a very festive affair with many guests attending in costume, dressed as well-known singers, actors and actresses from the '50s and '60s. Music was provided by "The Music Man," Gene Kelly (Patrick Bell).

The gala featured a "Who Dun It?" mystery game. Guests arrived only to find that their host, "Jerry Oilman," had been murdered. Each guest was given instructions for the game and a clue. Ten suspects were introduced and a "mix and mingle" time allowed everyone to share clues, examine evidence and enjoy appetizers that included meatballs, stuffed celery sticks, cheese fondue with breadsticks, chips and dip.

Detective's evidence was presented by Det. Paul Persimmons (emcee Bradley Tucker) and a medical report was read by Dr. Magdalene Malachi (Dr. Nancy Jones). Lucas Ludwig (David Bailey), the victim's lawyer, read his will. During dinner, guests were entertained by the Rogers Adult Wellness Center dance and swing group. Each person was asked to vote for the suspect he or she believed was guilty.

Dinner was catered by Steven Martinez and crew from Hardluck Cafe. Entrees included beef stroganoff, pasta primavera and chicken ala king over rice. Dinner rolls and garden salad were served. Desserts were a variety of mini cheesecakes.

A live auction with auctioneer David Barber was held following dinner. Auction items included home-baked cakes, a weekend in Branson and various experiences, including a breakout room activity, a tea party and the privilege to sit at the "heads" table and the "tails" table at next year's gala.

Ten guests correctly identified the murderer. The culprit was Ginger Rogers (Jodi Moore). The names of those who guessed correctly were placed in a drawing and three winners, Michelle Taylor, Melinda Griffin and Craig Fisher, received gifts. Trophies were presented to Jimmy Durante (Bill Mattler) for most outrageous accent, Elvis Presley (Jim Bob Britton) for best costume and most authentic character and Marilyn Monroe (Kelly Britton) for best makeup. A drawing was also held for the library's hog raffle fundraiser. The winner was Joe Staton from Benton.

Several guests enjoyed snapping souvenir photos at a red carpet photo backdrop. Takeout meals were available featuring the evening's dinner selections.

About $3,000 was raised through the gala and hog raffle, according to Karen Benson, the library supervisor. All proceeds will benefit the Gravette Public Library.
