Local youth take state-fair awards

WESTSIDE -- Ryan Murphy of Gentry was listed among junior youth needlework winners at the Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock last month. Ryan was listed under the machine-quilting category, under my first quilt. Also listed was Landen Watson, of Bentonville. Watson won best-of-show in the Plastic Canvas, medium division.

Falyn Cordeiro of Gentry was the wild card winner in the senior machine quilting category. Megan Pigeon of Siloam Springs won in the senior youth needlework category under casual children's clothing, women's dressy clothing and specialty clothes and costumes. She also won in the household linen category with an apron. Alisun Watson of Bentonville took best-of-show in embroidery.

Andrew Lindsey of Decatur took second in the junior showmanship division of Boer Goat Showmanship.

Christina Smith and Kaleb Smith of Gentry were both named as reserve grand champions in the Brangus open breeding beef division.

Brooklyn Carte of Gravette won a first-place in the junior food preservation division with her blackberry jelly. Landen Watson of Bentonville took first in relish, apple jelly, and cherry jelly.

Alisun Watson was a winner in the senior youth food preservation division with her green beans, picante/salsa, apple jelly, cherry jelly, apple butter, blueberry jam and plum jam. Tabitha Crawley of Maysville took first in the wild-card classification.

Tabitha Crawley also took first place with her pencil drawing of an animal in the senior youth art division. William Crawley of Maysville took first in the wild-card classification.

Morgen Puryear of Gravette won in the small-item classification of leather crafts in the senior youth crafts. Megan Pigeon won with her work on stone in the mosaic division. Josie Newsom of Gentry won and was best-of-show for her bird/butterfly house in the woodworking division. Tabitha Crawley won in beading with a bracelet. Alisun Watson was the wild-card winner in the decorative wine glass division. She also won an award in hand weaving for her loom work.

Haleigh Jernigan of Bella Vista took photography ribbons in junior youth crafts in geometric/abstract and portraits, and in black and white photography in geometric/abstract, portraits, people and conceptual. Owen Thurlo of Sulphur Springs won in black and white scenic photography. In photography, Lane Fritch of Hiwasse won with people and action photographs, as well as with a creatively-enhanced photo. He took a first in action black and white photography too. Jernigan took first in silk/dried floral centerpiece arrangements and in holiday centerpieces.

Other winners in junior crafts included Emily Myers of Siloam Springs in the leather jewelry (also best-of-show), Emily Jackson of Gentry in stone mosaic (also best-of-show), Connor LaBrecque of Gravette in home accessories, Landen Watson of Bentonville in clothing, Addison Robins of Gentry in greeting cards (also best-of-show), Wyatt Jackson on medium household woodworking item, Houston Nance of Gentry in the wild-card woodworking classification, Addison Robins of Gentry for a fishing lure, Kayla Philpott of Gentry for a holiday door decoration and Kallie Franks of Siloam Springs for a bracelet.
