Lady Pioneers struggle at boards, lose two

— The Lady Pioneers struggled at the boards and from the free-throw line Friday night and were defeated by the visiting Lady Eagles from Huntsville, 52-29.

Hannah Boss put in a pair of baskets and a 3-pointer in the first quarter to give the Gentry girls a 7-6 advantage in the first quarter, but Huntsville came on strong in the second half to take the lead and extended it until the end of play for the win on Friday.

Even though the Gentry girls were able to take the ball away from their opponents in the full-court press, they failed to capitalize on the boards.

Haley Hays, hit a free throw in the third quarter and sunk two 3-pointers in the final quarter to match Boss' seven points in the game. Ariel Nix added six for the Lady Pioneers.

On Nov. 13, the Lady Pioneers played the Lady Eagles from Paris and lost by two points in the final quarter by a score of 45-43.

The Lady Pioneers were up by eight after the first quarter and still held a 21-18 lead at the half. In the third quarter, the Lady Pioneers scored 14 points and extended their lead to 35-24, but then the Lady Eagles held the Lady Pioneers to three baskets and two free throws in the final quarter and picked up 21 points to win by two.

Ariel Nix led Gentry in scoring with 12. Chastery Fuamatu had 11. Kya DeZurik had eight.
