DECATUR -- It's "Pickin' Time on 59" once again and many Decatur area residents joined others along the Highway 59 corridor Sept. 28-30 to participate in this, the biggest annual sale event for this region of Northwest Arkansas. Every kind of artifact imaginable was available for purchase, at the right price.

Driving the length of Highway 59 from Siloam Springs to Sulphur Springs, travelers were treated to scenes of endless yard sales and flea markets that sprang up overnight to take advantage of this hugely successful free event.

As in years past, Pickin' Time was sponsored by a joint venture between the chambers of commerce from Siloam Springs, Gentry, Decatur, Gravette and Sulphur Springs.

Jean Johnson from Decatur represented the Decatur Chamber of Commerce on the Pickin' Time committee this year. Using her time and talents, Johnson was able to round up area residents who had everyday household items, collectibles and antiquities they no longer needed but had no place from which to sell them. The chamber's site at Veterans Park filled this need.

Coming into Decatur from the south, the first flea market and the largest in the city was located near the Decatur Salvage facility, located just outside the city limits. Visitors were able to browse through more than 25 booths containing items from old saw blades, headboards and books to clothing, accessories and stuffed Snoopy dolls.

In all, five large locations and several smaller tents lined Main Street and Veterans Park, making this one of the most successful Pickin' Times on 59 in the last four years for the Decatur Chamber.
