City council votes to rezone Arvest property

GRAVETTE -- In a special council meeting at the beginning of the Oct. 12 committee of the whole meeting, Gravette city council members voted to rezone property on First Avenue S.E., owned by Arvest Bank, from R-1, single family residential, to C-2, highway commercial.

In other action at the special meeting, a resolution was passed authorizing the mayor and city recorder to solicit bids and surplus two Life Packs from the Gravette Fire Department EMS equipment inventory. Another resolution was passed approving the retroactive payment of $33,627 for half the amount over $200,000 that was spent on Old Town Park improvements.

A public hearing was held preceding the council meeting to consider the three actions. No one was present to comment on any of the issues. Tom Barber was present and addressed the council during the open-comment period, expressing his concerns about a proposed building next to Arvest Bank. He was worried about possible flooding in the area. Since runoff is poor on the property now, he said paving part of it might make the problem worse.
