Fall festival planned to support musical productions at Gentry High School
The Gentry High School Fine Arts Department will be hosting a Fall Festival on Oct. 28, starting at 5 p.m., at the High School, to support its play and musical productions this year. The festival will include games, face painting, concessions and a Halloween-themed movie starting at 7 p.m. The festival games are free and geared toward those in sixth grade and younger, but all are welcome. Face painting will cost $1 to $3, and concessions will cost $1 to $5. Wristbands for the movie, one drink and one bag of popcorn may be purchased in advance for $2 by contacting Kim Acuff at [email protected].
Gravette family book giveaway set
Gravette High School will host a family book giveaway at the fall parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. As a Project RISE incentive, the school district is hosting this free book giveaway in order to have more reading materials at home for students and families to read.
Workday, meeting set at Springtown Cemetery
The annual workday and business meeting at Springtown Cemetery is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, beginning at 9 a.m. Volunteers are needed for regular maintenance and upkeep chores. Snacks will be provided. Families, scout groups, church youth and any other groups or individuals are invited to help, and all help is appreciated. The rain date is the following Saturday.
Flu Shot Clinic
A flu shot clinic for senior citizens will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. Signup must be made in advance. Medicare card is required or pay at the time of vaccination. Call 479-787-5950 if you have questions or to sign up.
Free Quilt Class
A free class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.
Gentry SAC Chili Supper
A chili supper will be held at the Gentry Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 121 E. Main in Gentry, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. The suggested donation is $5 per person. Meals will be available to eat in or carry out. Center director Maxine Foster invites everyone to come and enjoy the great meal and help the Senior Center raise money for its senior programs.
"My Grandma & Me" Quilt Show
"My Grandma & Me" Quilt Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Gravette Civic Center, 503 Charlotte Street S.E. in Gravette. Both antique and modern quilts will be displayed. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Gravette Historical Museum and the PieceMakers Quilt Club. Bingo Night Fundraiser
A bingo night fundraiser will be held beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette. Senior Center staff have issued an invitation for everyone to attend for a great night of fun. Bingo cards are $5 each. Bingo starts at 5:30 p.m. Come early for food, other games and prizes. All proceeds go to the Meals on Wheels program that serves Gravette, Sulphur Springs, Decatur, Hiwasse and Maysville homebound seniors.
Miss Octoberfest Pageants set for Oct. 28
Gentry's Miss Octoberfest Pageants will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Gentry High School auditorium. The pageants are sponsored by the Gentry Junior High Cheerleaders. The pageant is open to any and all participants, with age divisions from 0 months to 18 years, including divisions for boys from 0 months to 6 years of age. It is not required that participants be residents of Gentry. Applications will be available online at the gentrypioneers.com website and contain information regarding times and fees. Trick or Treat on Main Street
Gentry's annual Trick or Treat on Main Street event is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Children are invited to come in costume and trick or treat along Main Street from City Hall east to the railroad tracks. Organizations and businesses will be passing out candy and treats at the event.
Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays
The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents, and a USDA Commodity Program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 zip code area. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry church
The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products, baby supplies, etc., are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Lions Club meetings set in Gravette, Gentry
The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Subway sandwich shop, 901 S.W. First Ave., Suite D, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.
Tired Iron club meets third Tuesday of month

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.
Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month
Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.
Singing services planned
Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
Museum seeks school yearbooks
The Gravette Historical Museum Commission is trying to acquire Gravette High School yearbooks to add to the museum's collection. Annuals are still needed for the years 1957, 1958, 1977, 1979, 1984, 1998 and 1999. Those willing to donate the above annuals are asked to call museum commissioner Lavon Stark at 479-787-5678.
