GRAVETTE -- After losing in three straight sets at Shiloh Christian on Oct. 10, the Lady Lions finished their regular season by sweeping the Lady Pioneers in three straight on Thursday.

The Lady Lions fell to the Lady Saints, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-20. They defeated the Lady Pioneers, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-11.

The Lady Pioneers started strong in the opening set and held the lead a good part of the first game. Hannah Boss, Chastery Fuamatu and Ariel Nix were able to surprise the Lady Lions with early kill shots and it looked like the game might go Gentry's way. But the Lady Lions got their game plan in action and came back in the end, with strong play by Kaylee Midyett, Carlie Ericson, Hailee and Alexis Gerner, Sally Bird and Shelbye Varner, to win the set by five. And the Lady Lions dominated sets two and three to take the match.

The Lady Pioneers also fell to Lincoln on Oct. 10, 3-1. After losing the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-21, the Gentry girls came back to take the third, 25-22. But the score was reversed in the fourth and final set with the Lady Wolves winning the final set, 25-22, and the match.

The Lady Pioneers traveled to West Fork on Oct. 9 and brought home a victory, defeating the Lady Tigers in five sets, 3-2. Set scores were 13-25, 25-20, 25-21, 13-25 and 16-14.

The Lady Pioneers finished their regular conference season with a 3-11 record. The Lady Lions were 12-2 in conference play, second behind the first-place Shiloh Christian Lady Saints, who finished undefeated in conference play, at 15-0. The Lady Pioneers finished sixth in conference play.

Both the Lady Lions and the Lady Pioneers were scheduled to play this week in the district tournament at Lincoln High School. See next week's issue of the Eagle Observer for district tournament results.
