Gentry Band selling Blue & Gold products to raise funds
Gentry Marching Band is raising money by selling Blue & Gold products to support the 2017 Marching Contest season. This year, the band will participate in five marching competitions and needs help to fund travel, contest fees and meals for band members. Blue & Gold products include sausage, chicken tenderloin fritters and thick-sliced bacon. These products are unique and not available for purchase in stores. Gentry Medical Center to hold annual Kid's Free Fun Day Sept. 9
The Gentry Medical Center providers and staff and Smith Drug invite all to attend their annual Kid's Free Fun Day, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, outside, between the Gentry Medical Center and Smith Drug. A variety of children's games and activities will be available. Smoked chicken and potatoes, popcorn, cotton candy and other refreshments will also be available. Local residents can also meet GMC's new provider, Dr. Carl Duncan. Duncan will be joining GMC on Oct. 2 and will be accepting new patients. The Gentry Police and Fire Departments will also be on hand. It is all about family and community, and it is all free.
Awana Club begins Sept. 6
Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette will begin its 2017-2018 Awana Club on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m. Awana will continue to meet every Wednesday during the school year. Awana is for boys and girls, ages 3 (must be 3 and potty trained before Sept. 1) through the sixth grade. Awana Club is a children's program that includes Handbook Time, which challenges children to memorize Bible verses and activities; Game Time, which develops cooperation, team spirit and positive character qualities; and Large Group Time, which varies from week to week with songs, missions and Bible lessons and award time for clubbers. Emerson Electric Picnic set for Sept. 10

Tired Iron Fall Show
The Tired Iron of the Ozarks 26th annual fall show is set for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 8-10, at the club's show grounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The show will feature antique engines, tractors and farm equipment, a working sawmill and blacksmith shop, antique home furnishings, rope making and other crafts and activities. The featured tractors at this year's fall show will be John Deere. A parade of power is planned for noon each day in which antique tractors and equipment will be paraded past spectators. Tractor games are again on the event flyer. Sunday morning will include a 9 a.m. church service. And, as usual, the show is free to all and has ample parking. RV hookups are also available on the show grounds.
Gravette Library Gala
The Gravette Public Library is hosting its annual gala from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Gravette High School commons. Theme of the event is a "who-dun-it" murder mystery. Clues will be presented throughout the evening to help guests determine the identity of the murderer. All those who guess correctly will be entered in a prize drawing. A 1960s-themed dinner will be catered by Steve Martinez, David Barber will conduct a live auction, and music will be provided by Patrick Bell. Tickets are $35 each or may be bought at a discount by purchasing a table of 8. Tickets are pre-sale only and sales will end Sept. 8. Smoked Rib Dinner
The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road in Gravette, will hold a take-out smoked rib dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22. The meal will include three smoked ribs, baked beans, potato salad, roll, dessert and drink, for $8 per meal. The dinner is a fundraiser for the Meals on Wheels program that serves Gravette, Decatur, Sulphur Springs, Hiwasse and Maysville. Meals may be pre-ordered by calling the Center at 479-787-5950.
Tailwaggers holding 'Pool Pawty' in Siloam Springs
Tailwaggers will be holding its annual "Pool Pawty" at the Siloam Springs Aquatic Center from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sept. 9. The fundraising event for Tailwaggers of Northwest Arkansas will feature games, prizes, and a raffle. Cost is $10 per pet. Pet owners are urged to come hungry because burgers, chips and a drink will be available for $5. The event promises to provide a great time for the dogs in the pool and for the owners as well.
Museum seeks school yearbooks
The Gravette Historical Museum Commission is trying to acquire Gravette High School yearbooks to add to the museum's collection. Annuals are still needed for the years 1957, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1966, 1967, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1984, 1998 and 1999. Those willing to donate the above annuals are asked to call museum commissioner Lavon Stark at 479-787-5678.
Farmers' market offering double dollars
Double Your Dollar matching coupons are now available at the Gravette farmers' market. Anyone eligible for the SNAP and senior farmers' market produce vouchers may now come to the market and collect $50 in matching coupons. Double dollars can be used like cash to purchase fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, dairy products, bread and jams. The program is made possible through a grant from the Walmart Foundation.
Library offering book fine amnesty
Gentry Public Library is offering to pardon and forgive fines and penalties for overdue books and library materials if they are returned on Saturdays. No matter how long overdue, if items are returned to the Gentry Public Library between 5:01 on Friday evening and 8 on Monday morning, all fines will be excused. Patrons may also bring items into the library from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturdays or slide them into the drop box located on the west side of the library building during the amnesty times. Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays
The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents, and a USDA Commodity Program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 zip code area. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry church
The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products, baby supplies, etc., are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Subway sandwich shop, 901 S.W. First Ave., Suite D, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
