Gentry Police Blotter

GENTRY -- Flora L. Forrest, 60, of Tahlequah, Okla., was cited on Sept. 14 in connection to passing a stopped school bus on Pioneer Lane in Gentry.

According to police reports, Forrest was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse southbound on Pioneer Lane when she allegedly drove past a school bus stopped in a northbound lane, with red lights flashing and the stop sign extended, to discharge passengers.

Passing School Buses

Except in a divided highway with a 20-foot median, Arkansas law requires drivers to stop completely when approaching school buses from any direction when a bus has its red alternating lights on. Vehicles are to remain stopped until the bus passengers are unloaded and the bus is in motion again. Failure to do so, even if no accident ensues, can result in jail time, hefty fines, driver's license suspension, and community service. Drivers who pass a stopped school bus and hit and kill a child can be found guilty of negligent homicide, a Class C felony.
