Lady Lions beat Lady Elks but fall to Lady Saints

GRAVETTE -- The Lady Lions defeated the Lady Elks of Elkins in three straight sets in an away game on Sept. 12 but returned to lose in three to the visiting Lady Saints of Shiloh Christian on Thursday.

Gravette defeated Elkins, 25-15, 27-25 and 25-20 on Sept. 12, with Carlie Ericson and Allie Callahan playing a strong game at the net. Ericson, a senior, had seven kills and Callahan, a junior, had five in the match.

Sally Bird and Callahan also led in blocks. Bird had six solo blocks and two assists. Callahan had four solos and six assists. Hailee Gerner had five assists.

Leading in digs were Kaylee Midyett, a junior, with 50, and Alexis Gerner, a sophomore, with 23.

Shiloh Christian 3

Gravette 0

Against Shiloh Christian on Thursday, the Gravette girls fell in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-18.

Hailee Gerner had four kills in the match, and Sally Bird had three. Lexie Richards, a junior from Shiloh, had 22 kills during the three sets.

Carlie Ericson managed three solo blocks, and Bird had two.

Kaylee Midyett had 21 digs, and Hailee Gerner had 23. Both were troubled by errors against the powerhouse Shiloh team. Midyett had nine and Gerner, seven.

Alexis Gerner, a sophomore, received 12 Shiloh serves and had only one receiving error in the match.

Coming up

The Lady Lions were scheduled to play the Lady Eagles from Huntsville in a home match on Monday, an away game in Gentry on Tuesday (after press time) and then a home match against Lincoln on Thursday. See next week's Eagle Observer for results.
