SILOAM SPRINGS -- Siloam Springs Regional Hospital recently appointed several new members to its Healthy Community Advisory Council. New members include Adrienne Barr, Julie Chandler, Patti Eiland, Trish Houston, Carley Humpherys, Marnita Marler, Donna Reese, Rose Sparrow, Stephanie Truitt and Sheila Wilmeth.
The Advisory Council serves as ambassadors of the Healthy Community program and promotes its programs and events. During regular meetings, the group shares ideas about partnership opportunities, healthcare issues, topics and events for professionals to present.
"We're very excited to expand our current council by adding several new members from all over our community," said Rebecca Pearrow, director of marketing and business development at SSRH. "By adding council members we have a greater opportunity to partner with more local businesses and extend our outreach to best serve all segments of our community."
Healthy Community is geared toward women, men and children and focuses on the importance of healthy living, wellness and prevention, including body, mind and spirit. The program's mission is to empower community residents with the knowledge, confidence and resources they need to make informed healthcare and well-being decisions for themselves and their loved ones. By offering a calendar of events, including free classes, workshops and support groups, the goal is to provide information relevant to the people in northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma.
"SSRH wants to serve as a resource for wellness information, not just sick care," Pearrow said. "For example, we've heard from many people that our community is very interested in getting more information on diabetes and how it is managed."
Other classes include Alzheimer's awareness, childbirth classes, grief support and luncheons with health professionals speaking on a variety of health topics.
