GRAVETTE — The Bank of Gravett is holding a hurricane relief fundraiser this Friday, Sept. 29. The event, featuring a bake sale and silent auction, will be held in the front lobby of the bank. Hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hamburger dinners will also be available for $5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Donations are being sought and the community is invited to participate, either by donating cash, silent auction items, or baking items for the bake sale, according to Debbie Strickland, vice-president of marketing. People can also contribute by just coming and purchasing baked goods and silent auction items.
Anyone with items to donate should contact Sandy Johnson, 479-787-5251. The bank is located at 211 Main Street S.E. in Gravette.
"We look forward to seeing you there," said Strickland.
"We're a community bank and our employees genuinely enjoy 'giving back' and helping those in need, whether locally or across the nation when there's a need. We invite our community to partner with us in providing monies needed to restore so many Texas/Florida communities that were affected by the hurricanes," said Sharron Edmondson, Bank of Gravett president.
"We're receiving donations from local northwest Arkansas businesses and vendors for our Silent Auction. So far, items include various gift certificates to restaurants, oil changes, show tickets, Razorback tumblers, Genesis pure products, and jewelry -- just to name a few. We'll also have lots of baked goods to choose from, and we are always happy to just receive monetary donations -- after all, we're a bank!" said Sandy Johnson, Bank of Gravett employee and event coordinator.
All proceeds will flow through Sheep Dog Impact Assistance in Rogers to get funds to those areas in need. Funds will be used to help victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma in Texas and in Florida. SDIA is a national non-profit organization made up of men and women from our nation's military, law enforcement, fire and rescue, and EMS professions -- society's protectors or sheepdogs. The organization provides continued service opportunities through three programs: Disaster Response Mission, Outdoor Adventures, and Holiday Assistance. These service opportunities provide members with the physical challenges, camaraderie and a renewed sense of purpose that's often missing after a shift or tour of duty ends. Headquartered out of Rogers, SDIA currently has 23 chapters and teams in 17 states with more than 5,000 members, volunteers and supporters nationwide.
"We're proud to partner with such an upstanding volunteer-run organization as Sheep Dog Impact Assistance. They've already sent two teams to assist hurricane victims and are planning a third wave of assistance in the near future, which is when the proceeds from our event will be used," Strickland said.
