Annual Report to the Public set for Thursday

A special Gentry School Board meeting, to include the school district's annual report to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pioneer Activities Complex meeting room. All are welcome to attend.

Adult Welding Classes

Adult welding classes, being held at Gravette Public Schools, began Sept. 19 and will continue through Nov. 16. Primetimers Luncheon set for Saturday, Oct. 7

A Primetimers Luncheon will be held at Heritage Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Heritage Baptist Church is inviting anyone ages 60 and above to the community event. Heritage Baptist will supply the meat and drinks. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share. Heritage Baptist Trio is scheduled for the entertainment. Former Gentry homecoming queens sought

The theme for this year's homecoming in Gentry is: "Once a Pioneer, Always a Pioneer." The school would like to recognize former homecoming queens at the Sept. 29 game. Homecoming parade set for Sept. 29

The Gentry High School homecoming parade is set for 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. Any group or organization wishing to participate should contact Alishia Ramsey, [email protected], or Kari Cantrell, [email protected]. Parade lineup is at 12:30 p.m. The parade begins at 1 p.m. The route has slightly changed this year. The parade will begin at the high school parking lot, go north on Pioneer Lane, turn east on Third Street (Arkansas Highway 12), north on Smith Avenue, east on Main Street and end at Arvest Bank at Main Street and Railroad Avenue.

Library book sale planned Sept. 30

A book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the old Gravette Public Library, just east of the city pool at 407 Charlotte Street S.E. Books, CDs and DVDs will be available at bargain prices, or shoppers may fill a whole bag with books for $5. No book sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, but the regular first Saturday book sales will resume Saturday, Nov. 4.

Pickin' Time on 59 set for Sept. 28-30

Pickin' Time on 59, a garage- and yard-sale event in communities along Arkansas Highway 59 from Siloam Springs to Sulphur Springs, is set for Sept. 28-30, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Check with your city office or chamber office for local rules and guidelines.

Glow Ride set Sept. 30

A glow ride is set for Sept. 30 in Gentry City Park. Cyclists of all ages will ride from the park, down Main Street and back. Bicyclists will meet in the park at 6 p.m. to decorate their bikes with glow sticks and lights. The ride will start at 7 p.m.

Church of God (Holiness) to hold revival

Gravette Church of God (Holiness), located at Fourth and Atlanta, will be in revival through Oct. 1. The speaker will be Pastor Mark Avery from Mexico, Mo. Lions Club bean supper scheduled Sept. 30

The Gravette Lions Club will sponsor a bean supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Gravette Civic Center, 401 Charlotte Street S.E. Cost will be $5 for all-you-can-eat beans and cornbread, dessert and a soft drink. All proceeds will be used for Gravette Lions Club projects.

Maysville fundraiser supper scheduled

A fall fundraiser sponsored by the Maysville Extension Homemakers Club for the expenses and upkeep of the Maysville Community Building has been scheduled for Friday, Sept. 29, at the Community Building. The menu will consist of cornbread and beans, coleslaw and drink for a donation. Serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. Homemade pies and desserts will be available for purchase as well. Donations may also be mailed to Maysville Extension Homemakers Club in care of Gwen Singleton, secretary/treasurer, 13969 Wet Prairie Rd., Gravette, AR 72736.

Life Chain set in Gravette

All persons interested in taking a public stand concerning the right to life issue are encouraged to participate in National Life Chain Sunday 2017 on Oct. 1, from 2 until 3:30 p.m. Life Chain calls participants to an hour and a half of intercession on local sidewalks. This year, as in other years, Life Chain will be held on the sidewalks in front of Gravette Holiness Bible School. Participants are asked to gather at 1:45 p.m. for prayer and to sign in. Donkey basketball show planned for Oct. 3

The Dairyland Donkey Basketball Show, hosted by the Gentry Middle and High School choirs, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the Gentry High School gym. Juniors will play seniors in the first game, and parents will play against school staff in the second game. Advanced tickets are $7. Tickets at the door (if available) will be $10. Gravette library to host annual gala Oct. 7

The Gravette Public Library is hosting its annual gala from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Gravette High School commons. Theme of the event is a "who-dun-it" murder mystery. Clues will be presented throughout the evening to help guests determine the identity of the murderer. All those who guess correctly will be entered in a prize drawing. A 1960s-themed dinner will be catered by Steve Martinez, David Barber will conduct a live auction, and music will be provided by Patrick Bell. Tickets are $35 each or may be bought at a discount by purchasing a table of 8. Tickets are pre-sale only and sales will end Sept. 30. Gravette Public Library plans hog raffle

Tickets are being sold for a hog raffle sponsored by the Gravette Public Library advisory board. Tickets, available for $5 each or six for $25, may be purchased at the Gravette Public Library on Main Street. The hog was donated by Roy Perrine and processing by Southwest Processing, Southwest City, Mo. Drawing for the hog will be held Oct. 7 at the annual library gala. All proceeds will benefit the Gravette Public Library.

Gentry Library celebration planned Oct. 20

The Gentry Public Library and the Gentry Public Library Association will host a public reception on the afternoon of Oct. 20 in celebration of both the library's 10th anniversary in the refurbished Carl Hardware Store and the intermittent existence for more than a century of a lending library in the city. Architect Marlon Blackwell won many awards for the building's design and, a decade later, the building is a vital community center and source of pride for Gentry. Along with light refreshments, the reception will include discussions with local authors, displays of Gentry historical photographs, gift basket and craft raffles, and tours of the library. The GPL and the GPLA cordially invite the public and past library board members and library staff to join in this celebration.

Miss Octoberfest Pageants set for Oct. 28

Gentry's Miss Octoberfest Pageants will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Gentry High School auditorium. The pageants are sponsored by the Gentry Junior High Cheerleaders. The pageant is open to any and all participants, with age divisions from 0 months to 18 years, including divisions for boys from 0 months to 6 years of age. It is not required that participants be residents of Gentry. Applications will be available online at the gentrypioneers.com website and contain information regarding times and fees. Decatur FFA selling Blue & Gold meats

The Decatur chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) is currently selling Blue & Gold meats until Sept. 30. Breaded chicken is $21 for a 5-pound bag, bacon is $17 for 3.5 pounds and sausage is $7 for 2.5 pounds. Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents, and a USDA Commodity Program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 zip code area. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is now open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products, baby supplies, etc., are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. Lions Club meetings set in Gravette, Gentry

The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Subway sandwich shop, 901 S.W. First Ave., Suite D, in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron club meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette Kiwanis Club sets breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria inside Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion, Post 25, meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Museum seeks school yearbooks

The Gravette Historical Museum Commission is trying to acquire Gravette High School yearbooks to add to the museum's collection. Annuals are still needed for the years 1957, 1958, 1977, 1979, 1984, 1998 and 1999. Those willing to donate the above annuals are asked to call museum commissioner Lavon Stark at 479-787-5678.
