Lions bean supper set for Saturday night

GRAVETTE -- Members of the Gravette Lions Club will hold a bean supper fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 30. The all-you-can-eat meal will be served at the Gravette Civic Center, located at 401 Charlotte Street S.E. Club representatives remind area residents that Saturday is the last day of the annual Pickin' Time on '59 event and ask, "What better way to end a weekend of Pickin' Time shopping?"

The menu will include pinto beans and cornbread, dessert and choice of drink for $5 a person. Meals may be eaten on location or ordered for takeout. Advance orders may be made by calling club president Bill Mattler, 479-640-1199. All proceeds will be used for Gravette Lions Club projects.

Diabetes awareness is a new focus for Lions Club service activities this year. Diabetes contributes to more than five million deaths a year, making it the eighth leading cause of death in the world. In an effort to help prevent and control the incidence of this disease, free diabetes screenings will be provided at the bean supper by local nurses Sue Rice and Snooky Garrett.
