Gentry girls lose one, win three

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers won a doubleheader at home against the Lady Pirates of Greenland on April 3 and beat the Lady Tigers on Thursday but suffered a loss against the Lady Wolves of Lincoln on Wednesday.

In a special set of games played to draw awareness to those who battle breast cancer, the Gentry girls shut out the visiting Lady Pirates, 6-0, in the first game and then beat them again in a second contest, 17-2.

The Lady Pioneers scored six runs on five hits in the opening game April 3 and held the Lady Pirates scoreless in seven at-bats, though they also had five hits.

Meledy Owens hit a double, and Carissa Goosens has a triple in the game. Raegan Jude pitched seven innings for Gentry and struck out eight.

In game two, Gentry made quick work of Greenland, scoring seven runs in the first and five each in the second and third innings to end the game in three innings with a 15-run advantage, 17-2. Greenland picked up solo runs in the first and third innings on errors. Gentry had 11 hits in the game. Greenland had 0.

Allee Sweeten pitched for Gentry, striking out six batters in three innings.

Lincoln outscored Gentry, 9-1 in an eighth-inning tiebreaker on Wednesday. Gentry was up by three after six, but Lincoln tied things up at 10 runs each in the top of the seventh, sending the game into the extra inning. The big inning for Lincoln gave the Lady Wolves the victory, 19-11.

Makayla Case and Sweeten pitched for Gentry.

Against Prairie Grove on Thursday, the Lady Pioneers managed to take the win, 19-8, on 19 hits in five innings of play.

Mandy Barber picked up four hits in the game, singling in the first, doubling in the second and singling in the fourth and fifth innings.

Jude pitched for Gentry, striking out three.
