Shred event planned for Gentry on April 20

McKee Foods is collaborating with Grand Savings Bank for a paper-recycling event Friday, April 20. Anything paper may be brought to the Grand Savings Bank's Gentry location to be shredded onsite at no cost. Grand Savings Bank is located on the corner of Main Street and Arkansas Highway 59 -- next door to the Little Debbie Bakery Store -- in Gentry. Event hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Prayer Breakfast set May 3 in Gentry

The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 3. It will be observed in Gentry with a prayer breakfast at First Christian Church from 7 to 8 a.m. The featured speaker will be Pastor Eddie Knight from First Baptist Church. Everyone in the community is invited to attend.

Earth Day activities planned for Eagle Watch

Earth Day activities at Eagle Watch Nature Area will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21. Several trees will be planted and preparation work will be done in the butterfly garden for later plantings. There will be two presentations starting at 11 a.m. Lynn Sciumbato, who operates Morning Star Wildlife Rehabilitation in Gravette, will have a program about raptors featuring some of her live rescued birds. U of A entomology professor, Don Steinkraus, will have a presentation on the importance of pollinators. Lunch and refreshments will be served. Eagle Watch is located a mile west of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 12. In case of rain, the presentations will be moved to the Gentry Fire Station. Everyone is welcome. Earth Day Litter Pickup

White Line Waste will be hosting a drop-in Earth Day litter pickup at Crystal Lake in Decatur from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 22. Bagels and coffee will be provided in the morning, and a drawing will be held for door prizes and T-shirts.

Free Quilting Class

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St. S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block, and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Sunshine Quartet at Heritage Baptist Church

The Sunshine Quartet will be at Heritage Baptist Church during the 10 and 11 a.m. services on Sunday, April 22. Members of this group grew up in Gravette and have been singing together since they were in high school. Those who like Southern Gospel music will enjoy the quartet. All are invited. Heritage Baptist Church is located at 307 Fourth Avenue S.E. in Gravette.

'Jesus Only' crusade set at Mason Valley church

Mason Valley Baptist Church will be holding a "Jesus Only" crusade beginning Sunday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., and Monday through Wednesday, April 23-25, at 6:30 p.m. Bro. Ernie Perkins, from Oklahoma, will be the evangelist, and Jay Stewart, from Bentonville, will lead the music. The church is located on Arkansas Highway 12, halfway between Vaughn and Highfill. Falling Springs Cemetery to hold cleanup

The Falling Springs Cemetery will hold its annual clean-up day on Saturday, April 21, beginning at 9 a.m. Patrons of the cemetery are asked to bring tools and help. A board meeting will follow the cleanup.

Kindergarten and pre-K enrollment in Decatur

Open enrollment for pre-K and kindergarten for Decatur Public Schools for the 2018-2019 school year will be Thursday, May 3, and Friday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both enrollments will take place at Decatur Northside Elementary, 9083 Mt. Olive Rd. Requirements for kindergarten enrollment include being 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2018, providing a birth certificate, up-to-date immunization record, current physical, Social Security number (or the school can use a state-assigned waiver number). Requirements for pre-K enrollment are being 3 or 4 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2018, proof of residency, proof of income, birth certificate, Social Security number (or the school can use a state-assigned waiver number), current physical and an up-to-date immunization record.

NAGS to meet on April 23

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 South Main Street in Bentonville. Marie Demeroukas, the photo archivist and research librarian from Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale, will give a program, "The Dating Game: How to Determine the Age of Your Historic Photos." Taco Dinner Fundraiser

The Maysville Spring Fundraiser Dinner will be Friday, April 27. The menu is taco salad, drink and cake for $6.50. Serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event go towards utilities and other expenses of the Maysville Community Building and grounds. A bake sale will also be available to purchase homemade pies and a cakewalk for the kids and kids-at-heart.

Tired Iron Spring Crankup Set for April 20-23

The 26th annual spring show of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, April 20-23, at the club's showgrounds, 13344 Taylor Orchard Road, Gentry. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The show will feature antique tractors and engines, farm implements and demonstrations, a working blacksmith shop, working sawmills, antique home furnishings, a parade of power at noon, a log cabin, outhouse, rope making and a concession stand. The event and parking are free. The featured tractor at the show this spring is the Ford N Series. The featured engine is the Witte Engine. A silent auction will take place on Friday and Saturday, and a flea market will be open all weekend.

72 West to hold grand opening

Steve and Jill Mitchael will hold the grand opening of their new business, 72 West, Monday, April 30, at 11507 Highway 72, in Centerton. Ribbon cutting will be held at 9 a.m. 72 West will offer antiques, furniture, baby items, gifts, housewares and jewelry.

Farmers Market Coupon Signup

A representative from the Area Agency on Aging will be at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, to sign up senior citizens to receive coupons that can be used to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from local farmers markets. The center is located at 1870 Limekiln Rd. in Gravette. Applicants must be 60 years of age or older and bring photo ID and proof of household income to get signed up. Amateur radio club to meet May 3

The Bella Vista Amateur Radio Club holds its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Highland Christian Church. For those interested in acquiring an amateur radio license, the club also administers FCC exams on the second Saturday of each month at 2 p.m. All meetings and exams are held at Highland Christian Church, located at 1500 Forest Hills Blvd (Hwy. 279), in Bella Vista. Smoked Rib Fundraiser

The Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center in Gravette will be selling smoked pork baby back ribs for the Memorial Day weekend. Orders will be taken through Friday, May 18, for a full rack of ribs at $10 per rack or a half rack of ribs at $6 per rack. Come by the center or call 479-787-5950 to place your order. Orders will be available to pick up at the Senior Center, located at 1870 Limekiln Road, on Friday, May 25, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Delivery will be made to local businesses if requested. All proceeds go to the Meals on Wheels program that serves homebound seniors in the Gravette, Decatur, Sulphur Springs, Hiwasse and Maysville areas.

Free GED prep classes

Free classes to prepare people for taking the GED exam are being offered through May 11 at the Gravette Public Library. Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday evenings only, at the library, 119 Main Street S.E. Interested persons may enroll by calling 479-986-6911 or by attending the class. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start anytime and finish when they are ready.

Decatur UMC Pantry open first, third Thursdays

The Decatur United Methodist Church Food Pantry is open the first and third Thursday evening of each month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and offers food boxes to Decatur residents. All that is needed is a valid identification, a utility bill or piece of mail showing an address in the 72722 ZIP code area. Also available is a USDA commodity program to residents of Decatur and other communities without a commodity program. The commodity program requires income information. GFA Food Pantry open Tuesdays at Gentry AG church

The GFA Food Pantry at the First Assembly of God in Gentry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. The church partnered with the NWA Food Bank and Rural Compassion to receive food to be given away, including canned goods, fresh vegetables, bread, milk and dairy products, eggs, and meats as part of the only certified food bank in Gentry. Other items such as toilet paper, shampoo, cleaning products and baby supplies, are also available as supplies last. Clients are asked to call for an appointment. The Gravette Lions Club meets at noon, the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center, 1870 Limekiln Road, in Gravette. Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
