DECATUR -- After losing a pair of games earlier in the week, the Decatur Lady Bulldogs faced one of their toughest opponents of the season April 12 when the Gentry Lady Pioneers came to Bulldog Stadium in Decatur. This match marked the first meeting between these two teams since Decatur restarted the girls' soccer program in March.

The Lady Bulldogs faced a team that, in 2015, won the state 4A soccer championship. While not many (if any) team members remain from that championship team, the legacy they left behind continues.

From the opening kick, the Lady Pioneers took possession of the match, scoring several goals in the first half (the game stats were not available by press time). That changed in the second half as the Lady Bulldogs became the aggressors.

Decatur controlled the ball through much of the half, making several runs. In spite of the aggressive moves shown by the Lady Bulldogs in the second half, the experience of the Gentry goal keeper warded off all Decatur attacks.

The match ended with the Gentry Lady Pioneers shutting out the Decatur Lady Bulldogs 6-0.

"You have nothing to be ashamed of," said Sheldon McKenzie, Decatur coach, to his players after the game. "I saw you do remarkable things out there. Today you came together and played as a team. I am very proud of each of you."
