GRAVETTE -- Gravette Fire Department personnel, Lieutenant Jared Weston, fireman and paramedic Brad Harris and Captain David Orr completed an Arkansas Fire Academy certification course for fire officers on July 27. The course, which is nationally recognized, is an International Fire Services Accreditation Congress accredited course. It certifies individuals to the level of lieutenant and is part of an ongoing training program within the fire department, according to Gravette's fire chief, Lonnie Mullen.

These firefighters completed the Fire Service Instructor I course earlier this summer and are scheduled for the Fire Officer II course in October, which gives them the minimum requirements for captain based on National Fire Protection Association standards. The course cost per student is only $5, which covers the cost of the IFSAC seal.

"This strategic relationship Gravette Fire Department has created by hosting Arkansas Fire Academy classes has provided a cost-effective solution for Gravette Fire Department personnel to receive the accredited training needed which is nationally recognized," said Chief Mullen. "We look forward to hosting more courses in 2019 to further develop personnel in a cost-effective and efficient manner."
