Lady Pioneers lose opening volleyball matches

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers varsity volleyball team lost its Aug. 21 home match against the Lady Warriors of Life Way Christian in Centerton, 3-1. Life Way won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-21, before the Gentry girls came back for a 25-18 win in set three. Life Way took the fourth and winning set, 25-20.

The match was the first nonconference game of the season for the Gentry girls, who are coached by Courtney Millsap and Jordan Campbell.

The junior varsity girls won their opening set but then dropped the next two, the last one with Life Way coming from behind to take the victory.

The Lady Pioneers also fell to the Lady Eagles in a conference match on Thursday by a score of 3-1. The Gentry girls started strong and took the first set, 25-15, but that was the end of their strong play.

The Lady Pioneers fell in the next three sets, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13, giving the Lady Eagles their first win this season.

The Gentry girls are scheduled to play a strong Lady Blackhawk team at Pea Ridge on Thursday.
