Lady Pioneers pull off win over Lady Elks, boys fall

GENTRY -- The Pioneers were dominated by the visiting Elks from Elkins on Dec. 3 and lost the nonconference game by a score of 66-34.

Elkins dominated under the basket, forcing Gentry to shoot from the outside, and picked up rebounds on both sides of the court for the win.

Against Greenland on Friday, the Pioneers won 51-48.

Requested score sheets and statistics were not received from Gentry's coaching staff by press time.

Elkins 36

It was tied at 36 with just seconds left on the clock when Gentry put in a basket and took the lead, leaving Elkins with 1.6 seconds to respond.

The Lady Pioneers kept the Lady Elks from scoring and took the game by two, 38-36.

Gentry came from behind, being down 21-10 at the half but scoring 15 points in the third quarter and 13 more in the final quarter to take the win in the final seconds when Ariel Nix moved the ball under the goal and put in the winning basket.

Ariel Nix scored 13 points in the second half of the nonconference game to lead her teammates in scoring. Jaiden Wilmoth had six points in the first half. Emily Toland had six points in the game as well. Ahrya Reding and Randi Jo Bolinger each had five.

No scores were reported in the Gentry-Greenland game on Friday. Requested score sheets and statistics were not received from Gentry's coaching staff by press time.
