GENTRY -- The Gentry High School Wind Ensemble has been practicing for months, preparing to represent Gentry as the 2018 AAA Honor Ensemble to perform at the Arkansas All-State Conference.

Last spring, the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association invited all Arkansas junior-high bands and orchestras, Classes EEE, EEEE, and all senior-high bands and orchestras Classes AAA, AAAAA, to submit recordings of their ensemble to be evaluated by three out-of-state adjudicators. Each ensemble was only identified by their classification.

Out of all the ensembles, the Gentry Wind Ensemble, directed by Karri Wesson, was chosen as the ASBOA AAA Honor Ensemble. Harbor High School Wind Ensemble, directed by Jeremy Ford was chosen as the AAAAA Honor Ensemble. The Russellville junior-high Ninth Symphonic, directed by Scott Johnson, was selected as the EEE Honor Ensemble; and Van Buren Freshman Academy Wind Ensemble, directed by Ron Lewis, was chosen as the EEEE Honor Ensemble.

Other criteria to submit a recording for consideration were:

• Each ensemble submitting recordings must have made the first division at ASBOA Region Concert Assessment to apply;

• For band, one selection must be a march and the other a selection from the ASBOA or UIL list;

• For orchestra, both selections must be from the ASBOA or UIL list;

• Both selections must have been recorded during the school year of submission and must be unedited.

The Gentry Wind Ensemble will be traveling to Van Buren High School Monday, Feb. 12, to perform a joint Honor Ensemble Send-Off Concert with the Van Buren Freshmen Academy Wind Ensemble. The concert starts at 7 p.m.

The Gentry Wind Ensemble will perform at the Arkansas All-State Convention Arena on Feb. 15, at 8 a.m.
