GRAVETTE -- Shades of red were evident everywhere as area seniors gathered for their Valentine's Day party Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center. Most of the guests dressed in red clothing and jewelry, red hearts dangled from the ceiling and red arrangements and candies decorated the tables.

Melissa Steele, Center director, welcomed guests and asked if everyone was ready to have some fun. She directed them in playing the Saran Wrap game as players passed a large ball of Saran Wrap around the circle, each unwrapping strands and revealing candy and prizes in turn. LaVonda Augustine unwrapped the final prize, a giant truffle.

Next players formed two lines and tried to pass a red balloon down the line using only two straws. Losers had to serve lunch to players in the winning line.

Leon Forrest and Mavis Killeen were honored as Valentine King and Valentine Queen. Votes were cast during the first days of February, a penny a vote. Leon and Mavis received the most votes. Leon received 1,750 votes and Mavis received 1,500 votes. $66.83 was collected for the Center's Meals on Wheels program. Each winner received a certificate and a box of chocolates.

Most guests stayed after lunch to participate in a cupcake walk. Favorite slogans from Valentine candy hearts were taped to the floor and Steele played popular love songs. Each time the music stopped, she called out a phrase and the person standing on the winning slogan received a wrapped frosted cupcake.
