Tigers rip Bulldogs

WESTSIDE -- In what would be their final appearance of the 2017-18 season, the Decatur Lady Bulldogs were soundly defeated by the Lead Hill Tigers in the first round of the 1A Northwest district tournament at Alpena High School Feb. 12.

The Lady Bulldogs fell behind early in the first half and were never able to regain any momentum. By halftime, Lead Hill took a commanding lead, 29-12, going into the locker room.

Lead Hill continued to dominate Decatur throughout the entire second half. When the dust had settled, the Lead Hill Tigers defeated the Decatur Lady Bulldogs, 58-21, eliminating them from the district tournament and ending the season.

For Ashley Riggles and Tajhe Turner who completed their first season as girls' basketball coaches, the 2017-18 season saw several ups and downs for their team. The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with 8-18 overall and 1-6 conference records, one of the best seasons in nearly 10 years.

The good news for Lady Bulldog fans, most of this year's talent, including Sammie Skaggs, Abby Tilley, Destiny Mejia, Desi Meek, Paige Vann and Kaylee Morales, will return next season.
