Weather Awareness Week begins Sunday

Arkansas' Severe Weather Awareness Week is set for Sunday, Feb. 25, through Saturday, March 3. A statewide tornado drill will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The National Weather Service of Little Rock will be using the weather radio test on Wednesday, Feb. 28, as an opportunity to hold a statewide tornado drill so that everyone in the state has an opportunity to practice tornado sheltering procedures.

Most organizations have a requirement to review and practice their tornado sheltering procedures sometime during the year. Hopefully, this will provide the opportunity to focus tornado drill efforts across the state.

The text of the weather radio test will be altered to reflect the tornado drill on this day, and the weather radio test will occur at 9:30 a.m. instead of the normal 11 a.m. to noon in order to give schools a chance to participate by avoiding lunchtime.
