Gravette girls advance, boys end season

Gravette 53, West Fork 19

The No. 1 seed Lady Lions started fast and never slowed down in routing West Fork in opening round action on Feb. 21 at Berryville.

Gravette raced to a 17-1 lead after one quarter and led 28-3 at halftime in punching its ticket to Friday's semifinals. The win also assured Gravette (23-6) a berth in this week's Class 4A state tournament.

Krystin Branscum scored eight of her 10 in the first quarter. Gabbi Curtis led the Lady Lions with 12 points.

Elyssa Hauser and Brandi Smith scored four each for West Fork.

BOYS

Pottsville 56, Gravette 36

The Apaches seized control in the first quarter and rolled over Gravette to advance to Friday's semifinals.

Jacob Chisum scored seven of his 13 points in the first quarter to help Pottsville (26-2) to a 17-4 lead. Gravette was never able to recover.

Wesley Heikes, a 6-foot-6 junior forward, scored 13 points to lead all scorers for Pottsville and Samuel Dunlop added 12.

Senior Dayten Wishon led Gravette with 11 points.
