GRAVETTE -- Melissa Smith, alderman for the city of Gravette, has resigned her position on the city council. She announced she and her family are moving out of the area.

"We are incredibly thankful for her service to the city and wish her the best of luck," said Mallory Weaver, assistant to the mayor.

The opening for Smith's position, Ward 1, Position 2, must be filled at the next city council meeting, Thursday, Jan. 25. Resumes are now being accepted from residents who are registered voters and reside in Ward 1. Ward 1 includes all residents west of Highway 59.

Interested residents who submit a resume should plan to attend the January 18 committee of the whole meeting at city hall to answer any questions from the council, and the city council meeting at the civic center where a decision will be made. Both meetings are held at 6 p.m.

Anyone with questions should contact city hall, 479-787-5757.
